Angela
Angela and her husband Dave came to see us. Dave was suffering from cancer and they were in debt to the amount of £30,000. They had been dealing with the situation themselves until Dave was diagnosed with cancer, but Dave was concerned that his illness was terminal and that Angela would be left on her own with huge debts. Our solicitors worked through the options with them and advised them both to become bankrupt. We helped them to do this and Dave was able to know that the debts would be cleared.
Claire
Claire is in her early twenties. She has had to have two kidney transplants, and has been told that she may need to have her leg amputated. Claire was in debt, and came to the Speakeasy for help. With our help not only were her debts written off, but she became a claimant of Income Support and Disability Living Allowance.
Mr and Mrs Jones
Mr and Mrs Jones are both in their 70s. They were £6000 in debt, and their bank decided that they would use their house as security. This was of great concern to Mr and Mrs Jones, who were frightened that they may lose their house. They came to Speakeasy and an agreement was reached with the bank. Now Mr Jones pays £5 a month, and knows that his house is safe.
It is through cases such as these, by seeing the differences made in a persons' life, that we are able to see that our service is working.
