Where?
This project is based in the Info Shop, a well-known community project in the market town of Ebbw Vale. It is easily accessible, situated near a main shopping precinct with public and disabled parking available.
What?
Ebbw Vale is our busiest venue apart from the main office. Open every Friday from 10.00am – 4.00pm, and every other Wednesday. Caseworkers frequently report how they are rushed off their feet, seeing clients non-stop throughout the day.

Why?
In 2002, research by the Legal Services Commission, the Advice & Information Partnership and the National Assembly for Wales identified high levels of need for debt and welfare benefits advice in the area. Of particular need were the Sirhowy Valley wards (especially Tredegar West & Central), Ebbw Vale town centre and the Ebbw Fach valley (particularly Nantyglo, Brynmawr, Cwmtillery and Llanhilleth wards). The same research also recognised a lack of specialist suppliers to meet this need. In 2002, the Speakeasy was asked to come in and set up outreach surgeries to help fill the gap in service provision.
Five years after the project began, the Centre's work in Ebbw Vale has gone from strength to strength. The Speakeasy has built up a good reputation in the area and works in conjunction with other local organisations, including Community First Officers, Shelter Cymru, local support officers, to offer the best possible service to local residents.
