Where?
The Beacon Centre is based in the heart of the community and is a multi-purpose facility that was opened in September 2005. It includes a café, shop, Internet café for young people and a day nursery. It is easily accessible to local residents and is situated on a local bus route for people coming from further afield.
What?
Outreach surgeries are held on alternate Tuesdays from 10.00am – 1.00pm. The Beacon Centre is staffed full time, so people seeking legal advice can contact the Speakeasy to make appointments outside of actual outreach project times.
Our Results
Why?
The Trowbridge ward (which covers both Trowbridge and St Mellons) has been recognised over many years as exhibiting significant social, health and economic problems. The Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (2008) identifies it as a Lower Super Output Area and it has therefore been singled out for special input into community development and regeneration. The service offered by the Speakeasy is a valuable resource, which brings direct benefits to the local area.
